Yesterday I received an email from Robert about The Magic of Synchronicity. I receive a lot of mail and this was a long one so as usual I just glanced at it. However, this time I read every word. My point for readers of Todays Health Tip is we make the greatest progress when we apply self discipline in all areas of our lives including: health, relationships and money or the experiences we want to have that result in money.

Getting Everything You Want ……THROUGH

I realize that it’s theoretically possible for a person to be financially successful even though one area of his life may be in disarray. But I like to put the odds in my favor. And what I’ve discovered, through firsthand experience, is that it’s much easier to succeed when you have an across-the-board synchronicity in your life.

Take, for example, a lack of self-discipline when it comes to eating – an area with which I am all too familiar. Not only did I find that being grossly overweight made it more difficult to succeed in other areas of my life, I finally realized that I might not be around long enough to enjoy whatever success I managed to achieve.

The same is true with regard to circadian sleep rhythms. To the extent you get to bed early, sleep soundly, and rise early, it gives you a big edge over those who suffer from sleep deprivation. And, of course, the same is true of exercise.

What I’m saying here is that, based on years of empirical evidence, I am convinced that the fastest way to get from where you are now to where you want to be in life is to get all areas of your life in sync. That’s because synchronicity speeds up everything – and, as Joe Vitale says, ” Money loves speed .”

Simply put, the quickest way to change one thing in your life is to change everything . And that doesn’t happen by working longer and harder at your business. It’s a result of working more and more on yourself . When all aspects of your life are on track, financial success follows almost automatically.

The Pushup that Wasn’t

When I was in my late twenties, I found myself at the bottom of a very deep financial ravine. If you’ve read Looking Out for #1 , you already know my tale of woe: No income … no friends … no connections … no prospects … and living on a Ryder truck! Those were pretty grim times.

I haven’t been asked about those dark days for many years, but early in my career as a bestselling author, a number of television talk-show hosts inquired about my climb from the financial abyss to fame and fortune.

I vividly recall one of my appearances on The Merv Griffin Show , when Merv (who, by the way, was a great guy and a fabulous interviewer) asked me, “How in the world did you go from living on a Ryder truck to a sprawling beach-front home in Malibu?”

It was the first time I had ever publicly discussed the gory details of my miraculous turnaround, and my answer was direct. I explained to Merv that by selling off some of my furniture and other belongings that were on the truck, I was able to raise enough money to move into a seedy little apartment.

Surprisingly, I have fond memories of that wretched little abode, because it’s where I bottomed out. I not only was broke, I was grossly overweight, I was out of shape, and I had no real plan for changing things.

Then, one night, I fell asleep on the floor in front of my black-and-white television set. And when I awoke, I did something that puzzles me to this day: I tried to do a pushup … just one little pushup. It was an impulsive act, but one that turned out to be a major turning point in my life.

Notwithstanding my youth, I could not push myself up off the floor – not even once! I cannot tell you what an impact that had on my psyche. The next step, I thought to myself, was a heart attack … followed by a trip to the poor folks’ cemetery.

The X Factor

With great effort, I managed to get up off the floor and onto my feet. Then, as though I were on autopilot, I walked to the bathroom, turned on the light, and looked in the mirror. To put it mildly, I did not like what I saw staring back at me. Truly, it was an epiphany moment in my life.

I was immediately conscious of the fact that the guy in the mirror was responsible for my predicament. There was not a question in my mind that he was the one who had destroyed my life.

Sure, there were a lot of unscrupulous characters along the way who had added to my misery, but they were nothing more than enablers. I admitted to myself that the sorry soul in the mirror was the one who had always been at the controls.

I then did something that forever changed my life: I ran my right index finger over a bar of soap that was on the sink, then made an X with it on the mirror – right through my face . It was a symbolic act, meant to signify that I was striking from my life the Robert Ringer in the mirror.

That single act opened the door for the new Robert Ringer to emerge. While staring at that X on the mirror, I made a vow. It wasn’t a vow to get rich. It was a vow that I was going to change everything about my life.

I suddenly realized that the only way I could hope to change anything was to change everything . And it was the only way I could ever hope to have everything – including purpose, prosperity, and peace of mind.

The Synchronized Robert Ringer Emerges

From that point on, through the power of free will, the most important decision I made was to employ relentless self-discipline in everything I did. Self-discipline translates into habits … habits translate into consistency … consistency translates into speed … and speed translates into results .

Everyone experiences a certain degree of success at one time or another in his or her life. In extreme cases, it may only be for a few days. But when we use the term successful person , we usually are referring to someone who has experienced a high level of success over a long period of time .

Such a person doesn’t just do the right thing now and then. Rather, he develops habits that consistently move him in the right direction.

In my case, I became an exercise fanatic, lifting weights three days a week, jogging virtually every day, and doing 600 sit-ups each morning and a second set of 600 in the evening. I became Arnold before there was an Arnold.

I focused on productive thinking. I focused on creating value. I focused on efficiency. I focused on integrity. Above all, I focused on the relationship between self-discipline, habits, consistency, and speed. My epiphany moment had given me great clarity. I had a vivid picture of where I would be in a year … two years … and beyond.

And that vivid picture became reality.

Back to the Future

Getting my life in synch paid immediate and huge dividends to me in virtually everything I did. A little over a year later, when Time magazine did a feature story about me, my sister called and asked, “Well, how does it feel to see your picture in Time magazine?”

Without giving it a conscious thought, I answered, “In all honesty, I don’t have much feeling about it at all. I’ve pictured it for so long that it wasn’t a surprise to me.”

Don’t get me wrong. I felt really good about the publicity, but it was like being caught in a time warp. For me, it had already happened a long time ago. It all started with that soapy “X” I had drawn on the mirror.

Not long after the Time article, while sitting in the host’s chair on The Tonight Show and playfully blowing cigar smoke in McLean Stevenson’s face, I experienced the exact same feeling. As the audience roared with laughter, I felt as though I had already been there. I was completely at home sitting in Johnny Carson’s chair … no nervousness whatsoever.

Now, here’s the most important point I want to share with you: If my goal had just been to make a lot of money, I don’t think any of these incredible things would have happened to me. I believe they were a result of my getting all areas of my life in sync.

As I said, the quickest way to change one thing is to change everything . I am 100 percent certain that my success was a result of the synchronicity in my life.

The Joy of Teaching

Neil Diamond once said that “the stage she is the damnedest lady you ever did see.” With those words, it was clear that he was referring to the exhilaration he gets from being in front of an audience and bringing people to their feet.

I can relate to his words. The money that comes from being a bestselling author is great, no doubt about it. But I have always said that I define my success by how many people I’ve touched. Every one of the thousands of letters and emails I’ve received over the years is important to me.

Please understand that I’m not talking about altruism here. You might say that I’m talking about rational selfishness. It makes me feel good to know that I’ve played a major role in helping others succeed. It’s a high that’s hard to explain. Celiac and other Digestive Problems

A vast numbers of people who have trouble digesting grains and pasteurized dairy products have serious digestive troubles brewing. Who is going to tell you if you are one of them? The problem is associated with the foods you eat? Do you think your health care provider (Doctor) has time to spend educating you on how to eat? How much would you pay the doctor to tell you not to eat the foods you have grown up loving? Are you one of the billions of individuals who just wants to take something to cover the symptom?

Gluten, a protein found in grains such as wheat, rye and barley, wreaks havoc in people with Celiac disease, but what if you don’t yet have celiac disease? What causes this condition medical authorities like the Journal of American Medicine and others all say the exact cause of celiac disease is unknown. The intestines contain projections (called villi) that absorb nutrients. In undiagnosed or untreated celiac disease, these villi become flattened. This affects the ability to absorb nutrients properly.

Natural health professionals and nutritionist all know what causes this condition and it starts with the process refined foods in the American diet and pasteurized dairy products triggering an immune reaction that damages the small intestine and prevents absorption of nutrients.

Large numbers of people, perhaps even the majority of the population, are adversely affected by gluten on some level, even though most of them don’t have full-blown celiac disease, just a lesser form of gluten intolerance. Most Americans don’t chew well enough to digest grain protein. Think about it next time you are eating.

Grains and sugars are pro-inflammatory and will worsen any condition that has chronic inflammation at its cause — and not just inflammation in your gut, but anywhere in your body.

In fact, if you want to avoid heart disease, high cholesterol, type 2 diabetes or even cancer, you will want to severely limit your processed grain consumption, or avoid grains entirely.

In my experience about 75-80 percent of ALL people benefit from avoiding grains, whether you have celiac disease, gluten intolerance or neither of those conditions. Your body is simply not designed to eat the high levels of processed grains so common in diets today.

The same holds true for pasteurized dairy products. Drinking pasteurized milk is frequently associated with a worsening of health, and this is largely due to the pasteurization process itself. As Sally Fallon of the Weston Price Foundation stated:

“Pasteurization destroys enzymes, diminishes vitamin content, denatures fragile milk proteins, destroys vitamin B12 and vitamin B6, kills beneficial bacteria, promotes pathogens and is associated with allergies, increased tooth decay, colic in infants, growth problems in children, osteoporosis, arthritis, heart disease and cancer.”

The USDA reports that the top nine foods eaten by Americans are:

· Whole cow”s milk

· 2 percent milk

· Processed American cheese

· White bread

· White flour

· White rolls

· Refined sugar

· Colas

· Ground beef

No wonder we have a health crisis in America. Be a part of the solution not a part of the problem. Stop eating the above foods.

What’s All the Fuss about Fiber?

Mindset, Commitment, The Master Cleanse

Last spring I published an article How To Strengthen Our Three Foundation Pillars For Optimal Business SuccessThe first pillar is health since it has been my experience that good health and vibrant energy is necessary to achieve any and all business and personal goals. In talks across the country, I remind audiences that without good health, nothing else matters since we are not able to enjoy any money we have earned or relationships we have formed.

This is a story about me walking the talk.

For a number of years I have  defined my ideal weight goal and imaged my body shape and energy level. I have various periods of getting close but would relax about it and place a higher priority on the social aspects and relaxing aspects of eating especially when traveling.

Regarding traveling a little over a year ago I was asked by JT Foxx to provide executive coaching to certain of his students. That led to an expanded role of Director of Mentoring and Coaching. In that role I began to travel a lot across country, into Ontario, Alberta, and more. So my weight crept up. Moving further away from my goal I noticed the impact on my mindset. I was not happy about it and I knew it affected my mood and effectives.

At one of the events in Hawaii, I met Joe Sugarman who was a featured speaker. We connected on a number of topics but mostly on the topic of copywriting and his new health company.  Joe is a legend direct response marketer, author of very notable books,  the founder of Blublocker Sunglasses and now a company with breakthrough in the genetic management of the human body. I actually believe we connected because I demonstrated my sincere interest in helping him at the event with actually minor logistics but important ones to any speaker. Joe is a very gratious man who spends time on any questions a person might have.

So why all this space on Joe Sugarman when this is about my health and weight? Well because toward the end of Joe’ s presentation, Joe started taking off his suit coat then tie then shirt and here in front of nearly 100 people, Joe, the now 72 year old Joe stood with an amazing physic, very lean and strong. I noticed and thought how does he do that?

About three months later I was on the phone with Joe mentioning he had just come off a 14 day fast. I made a mental note to talk with him about that during an upcoming event we would both be at in Chicago. And I did and I learned about the Master Cleanse. I also had no serious intention then of trying that.

About a month ago my Skype went off and a good friend of mine in China called and started telling me about how great she was doing on the Master Cleanse. Being a person who advocates “paying attention to the messages you are intended to receive”.. I now knew it was intended for me to take this serious. I called Joe and he began to walk me through the process and coach me on what to expect. He also said he was sending me a brochure. That brochure is a book titled The Master Cleanse and is over 70 pages. I read it cover to cover and I understood why it worked and the benefits. I knew it was time to “walk the talk on my advocating health as the number one priority.”

A little over two weeks ago, I spoke with Joe and said “Joe I am starting Sunday and I am doing this for 10 days.”  Joe said, email me every day Steve and let me know how you are doing and call me anytime if you have questions or need help with what is going on.  As I went into this process the knowing I was going to be telling Joe how I was doing was powerful. Once I made the commitment to 10 days, there was no way I was going to write on any of those days and say I couldn’t do it or I had cheated…no way. And I didn’t.

What I experienced…The first three days sucked. I had a headache from caffeine withdraw and toxin release. My lower back hurt and my legs were very achy. I am grateful I was reporting to Joe because mentally I quit that damn cleanse about 20 times during that three days. However, I noticed I was not hungry. Things began to get better the tail end of the third day and into the fourth day my headache was gone and backache. By the 5th day other aches were gone. Then I began thinking I was making a two day trip to NY and how was I going to maintain the cleanse.

I left for NY on the 7th day, returned on the 8th. I packed my supplies, stayed on the cleanse and did great…all mindset.

Today

Today is the third day of the easing back into eating process and I am doing great. I have shed 12 pounds and still dropping as I am eating light with only fruit and vegetables. I am using some of my favorite meal supplement products twice a day that I was using before the cleanse.

Adjustments

I think the biggest adjustments for me going forward is a further increase in fruits and vegetables and smaller quantities. I learned  a lot about how psychological eating habits are. Will I avoid all that I have eaten in the past that is not good for me?  I doubt it but I am much more aware of frequency and quantity.

The Big Question: Will I Do It Again?

Yes sometime in the next 6 months I will do it again. I am currently still 8 pounds away from my ideal weight and even if my weight was at that point the health benefits of the cleanse are tremendous. Am I looking forward to it?  I am not afraid of it and I am looking forward to further benefits to my health.

How To Stay Feeling Young

HOW TO STAY YOUNG

1. Throw out nonessential numbers and factors.
This includes age, height, eye and skin color, who your parents
are, past stuff and present stuff that you can’t change.
Don’t worry about what you cannot change.

2. Keep only cheerful friends. The grouches pull you down.
Who you are attached to will bless you up or mess you up.
Make sure that YOU are a cheerful friend and not a grouch.

3. Keep learning. Learn more about the computer, crafts,
gardening, whatever. Never let the brain idle. ‘An idle mind is
the devil’s workshop.’ And the devil’s name is Alzheimer’s.

4. Laugh often, long and loud. Laugh until you gasp for breath.

5. Enjoy the simple things. Breath is one of the simple things.

6. The tears happen. Endure, grieve, and move on. Don’t blame
others for your situation. The only person, who is with us our
entire life, is ourselves. Be ALIVE while you are alive.

7. Surround yourself with what you love, whether it’s family,
pets, keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies, whatever. Your home is
your refuge.

8. Cherish your health: If it is good, preserve it. If it is
unstable, improve it. If it is beyond what you can improve, get
help. Your body is the most important vehicle you will ever own.

9. Don’t take guilt trips. Take a trip to the mall, even to the
next county; to a foreign country but NOT to where the guilt is.

10. Tell the people you love that you love them, at every
opportunity.
